[Blog] TRVST system – onboarding process and verification specifications

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The main goal behind TRVST is to establish better global coordination and response against counterfeit and falsified medical products, especially in low and middle-income countries (LMICs).

To enable such transparency, TRVST set the objective of allowing countries to verify the authenticity of health products, and to track and trace them through the supply chain on a single and common platform.

In the first article for TRVST, we met you with the role of the platform, its components, and its functionalities. In the second part of the materials, we will dive into the technical area, presenting you with the onboarding process and verification specifications of TRVST.

Verification Process and Data

To ensure TRVST is able to work with countries using the most appropriate tools to meet national requirements, at the current moment there are four different modes of verification tools being made available:

  • Modality A: Global Application issued by TRVST
  • Modality B: National Application issued by TRVST
  • Modality C: API Interface to a Nationally developed App
  • Modality D: API Interface to a National system

Regarding the data, the data is supplied via two main routes:

  • Manufacturer product master data and serialized batch data
  • Verification data as a result of a verification scan

Onboarding Process

The process could be divided into five main stages:

Phase 1: Supplier readiness:

  • Define the scope of products and supply chains to include in TRVST;
  • Invite supplier to engage;
  • Introduce TRVST through Webinar series and conference presentations;
  • Assess interested supplier GS1 adoption and serialization maturity;
  • Set up a kick-off meeting.

Phase 2: Initial Engagement

  • Hold kick-off meeting with supplier serialization and brand safety teams;
  • Review FAQs and emergent questions, implementation timeline, and level of effort requirements;
  • Support socialization with other internal supplier teams (account management and legal);
  • Set up legal team engagement.

Phase 3: Legal Engagement

  • Facilitate TRVST legal counsel engagement with supplier legal team;
  • Review legal documents;
  • Sign Enterprise Agreement;
  • Set up technical team engagement.
  • Sign an Agreement with a provider for an L4 solution.

Phase 4: Implementation

  • Share technical documentation pack;
  • Engage with the supplier technology team and L4 service provider;
  • Select business triggers for data submission to TRVST (ship-to or ordered-by);
  • Train technical and other staff on dashboard and T&T portal use;
  • Test integration in testing and QA environments and promote to production.

Phase 5: Operations & Monitoring

  • Ensure hyper-care support for the first months of integration;
  • Support supplier usage of the dashboard and T&T portal;
  • Monitor data submission and verification alerts;
  • Provide regular KPI metrics;
  • Share lessons learned.

According to the currently available official information, the countries are in different stages of TRVST implementation. In “Completed deployment” are Nigeria and Rwanda. In the “Ongoing Deployment” are Nepal, Malawi, Liberia, Tanzania, Madagascar, and Botswana. The other countries are in the phase of “Advanced conversion” (Ghana, Ethiopia, Egypt, Philippines, India, Zambia, and Senegal) and “Early phase of exploration” (Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Kenya, Namibia, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Togo, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Burundi, Pakistan, Ivory cost, and Benin).
